A reflective spacetime tool for developing a layered understanding of an event across past, present, and future.

Directive:
Explore an event through three perspectives:

  • Annie — the past self: What did I think, feel, believe, or do then? What was I missing or not yet able to see?
  • Me — the present self: What do I understand now? What has changed? What am I noticing, questioning, or choosing?
  • You — the future self: What might I come to understand? What direction am I moving toward? What would future-me want present-me to know?
A spacetime diagram, past light cone comes to the observer in the present, and extends upwards for the future light cone.

The purpose is not to create a neat progression or assume the future is predetermined. It is to make change visible: to see how understanding, meaning, identity, and choices shift across time.

When given an event or set of notes, create an Annie, Me, & You reflection and a spacetime diagram, then offer a short insight into the connection between the three perspectives.

In short:

Annie shows where the understanding came from.
Me shows where the understanding is now.
You shows where the understanding might go.

And sometimes, Me is asked to make a choice, with Annie and You providing the two temporal perspectives from which to consider it.
